Wesley Kew , MA (South Africa)
Clinical Psychologist
In my practice as a clinical psychologist, my core belief centers on inspiring individuals to unlock their innate passion, strength, and inner resources. Shifting one's focus towards seeking understanding and solutions is a powerful commitment that initiates a rewarding process of growth and development. This transformative journey is grounded in fostering mutual respect, rapport, empathy, and authenticity. I firmly believe that all healing must occur within a therapeutic relationship – particularly the relationship cultivated with oneself.
Within the clinical setting, my specialization lies in guiding adults and teenagers towards adopting a growth mindset, encouraging them to embrace life's challenges and embark on a journey of self-discovery. Despite life's adversities, individuals possess the power to design their path forward through intentional decision-making. Having worked extensively with various personality disorders, depression, and anxiety in both individual and couples counselling, I have witnessed the profound impact of developing healthy interpersonal relationships, healing old wounds, and practicing self- forgiveness. This process creates the space to explore challenges empathetically; unlocking one's true potential and fostering renewed confidence in embracing life.
My experience extends to working with diverse sporting codes, including soccer, rugby, cricket, hockey, and water polo, collaborating with athletes ranging from school-level teenagers to professionals, international athletes, and Olympians. Drawing from my background as an ex-professional athlete, I comprehend the delicate balance between mental and physical well-being. This insight empowers individuals to perform at their peak, translating hard work into sustainable success. By unlocking the "inner giant", individuals can transcend from good to great, recognizing that consistent effort surpasses innate talent when talent remains dormant.
