Topic for November SEN Event: Executive Functions in Students - A 360-Degree View

This is an in-person event at The LightHouse Arabia (Al Wasl Rd branch), for the teaching community.

Educators play a vital role in supporting students’ academic and personal development. Understanding and addressing executive function challenges can help you better assist students, while supporting teachers and parents.

Executive functioning is called the “command center” of the brain. Beyond the realm of academics and task completion, executive functions play a crucial role in social interaction and emotional regulation, helping students manage emotions and make sound decisions in daily life. With awareness, knowledge and strategies in place, educators can help to ensure students with executive function difficulties receive the needed support to excel academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key takeaways for educators attending this in-person event:

  • Executive functioning and its components
  • Technology’s effect on executive functions
  • Common signs of executive function challenges (social-emotional & academic)
  • Strategies and interventions to improve executive functions in students
  • Resources and tools to start putting into practice today
