School Inclusion Staff: Monthly Online Consultation Group (Closed Group)

This free-of-cost, closed group runs online (Zoom) on a monthly basis, and will comprise of maximum 9 participants and Clinical Supervisors from The LightHouse Arabia.

ABOUT THIS CONSULTATION GROUP:

This Monthly Group Consultation for Inclusion Staff (GCIS) is a dedicated support group designed for Special Education Needs (SEN) teachers and Learning Support Assistants working in UAE schools. The group meets online once a month, and is facilitated by experienced Clinical Supervisors from The LightHouse Arabia. It provides a safe space for inclusion professionals to reflect, learn and grow together. The GCIS is a free-of-cost closed group, and participants can bring any topics or issues related to their practice as part of the SEN team. Some of these topics relate to managing student behaviors and needs, collaborating with parents, teachers and colleagues, as well as issues including, but not limited, navigating ethical dilemmas and addressing caregiver burnout. 

BENEFITS IN JOINING THE CONSULTATION GROUP:

In attending the monthly online consultation sessions, participants will have:

  • A safe and supportive environment where professional and practice issues may be explored.
  • The opportunity to share challenging cases and receive professional input from the supervisor, as well as their peers.
  •  A chance to learn practical tools and techniques to further support students with additional needs in school in areas of: - Behavior management - Executive functions - Emotional regulation - Sensory integration
  • Space to reflect on their self-care practices as a means of preventing burnout, while learning additional ways to maintain a healthy work/life balance during the busier school months.
  • Guidance on how to give clear, concise and constructive feedback to parents and classroom teachers.
  • Support to challenge all practices that are considered unethical or incompetent using the profession’s best practice, policies and procedures of the organization they work for.
  • Opportunity to consider other factors that may impact on the inclusion teacher’s work including working relationships with colleagues or personal circumstances within the scope of personal and professional boundaries.
  • Supervision to challenge any unhelpful assumptions and attitudes they carry which may influence practice

LAYOUT OF SESSIONS:

The group will run online on Zoom on Thursday mornings (6 sessions in total)
