Our March event for School Counselors Connect will be:
Understanding Executive Functioning & its Role in Emotional Regulation
Executive functioning is called the “command center” of the brain. Beyond the realm of academics and task completion, executive functions play a crucial role in emotional regulation. Emotional regulation involves the capacity to manage and modify emotional responses in a way that allows students to accomplish their goals, complete tasks, or control and direct behavior. The components of executive functioning, such as inhibitory control and cognitive flexibility, empower students to adapt to changing emotional landscapes. A well-developed executive functioning system equips students not only to succeed academically but also to navigate the complex world of emotions effectively.
Counselors will walk away with an understanding of:
- Executive functioning and its components
- Technology’s effect on executive functioning
- The relationship between executive functioning and academic success
- How difficulties in executive functioning can manifest as emotional and behavioral challenges
- Strategies and interventions to bolster executive functioning in students for better emotional regulation
