ABOUT THIS WEBINAR:

Would you be able to tell if a child was showing signs of anxiety or depression? Children are masters at masking their feelings, and the nature of mental health illnesses are often invisible to the eye. Since the onset of the pandemic, rates of anxiety and depression have doubled in youth. Cyber-bullying has increased by 70%. Secondary trauma is more prevalent in children as a result of them being exposed to violent content on social media. Children today are more dissociated and dysregulated than ever before, which is often being mistaken for misbehaviour or defiance. As is the case with physical health difficulties, early detection and intervention of mental health difficulties lead to a better prognosis. As an adult, it becomes increasingly important to know the difference between good mental health versus a child developing mental health difficulties, like anxiety or depression.

ATTENDEES OF THIS TALK WILL WALK AWAY WITH:

  • Clarity regarding what mental health really looks like and knowing which risk factors contribute to children developing mental health difficulties.
  • A deeper consideration for the impact of mental health difficulties on a child’s development.
  • A better understanding of the warning signs that a child may be struggling, as well as being able to differentiate between depression vs. sadness, or anxiety vs. normal worry.
  • A 3-step-approach to provide empathy and support to a child that is struggling emotionally.
  • Additional resources to safeguard a child’s wellbeing regarding their mental health.
